  1. I think my core belief in teaching revolves around showing respect to my students and treating them fairly. It is my hope that they may see that in me and do the same to others. I think it does relate to caring as the author discusses. I guess I feel as if we are the role models for many who may not have one at home. Think about the power in that!

  2. One of the most important things to me is to believe in the children and motivate them to be all that they can be. If we believe in them they will believe in themselves. We need to let them know how important they are. Treating them with love and respect will impact them forever. As teachers we must be “builders” and equip students with the confidence and tools that they need to succeed.

  3. I believe we must have respect for all (teachers, staff, students, and parents).
I believe that all students and teachers can learn.
I believe that purposeful and authentic experiences are the best for students and teachers.
I never underestimate the power of my influence.

After finishing this book, I sat down and reflected on my beliefs. These are just a few. I'm still reflecting!

  4. I believe that all children are capable of learning!! Some learn differently and take longer but it's my job to take them down the road of success. You have to believe in yourself, students, and the staff that you work with!!!

  5. My teaching philosophy is that all children learn by using their own special gifts. It's my job to discover those gifts and help each child to be successful. I do that by being the variable in my classroom, creating a positive learning environment for each child, and treating each child with love and respect.

  6. One of my basic beliefs about teaching comes form a phrase out of a Whitney Houston song that says "the children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way, show them all the beauty they possess inside and give them a sense of pride." I could go on, but these words always ring in my ears when I am teaching and help to guide me in my decisions in the classroom.

  7. Gillie says... Part of my core belief is to be a good listener, to treat children fairly and to foster the belief that you can do almost anything if you are willing to put forth the effort.

Another core belief is that you learn not only from your successes, but from your mistakes.

  8. Respect is at the center of my beliefs. I try to treat others as I would want them to treat me. I work to build relationships with people. To take the time to hear what they need and respond genuinely. I believe that giving others responsibility enables them and they will rise to your expectations.

  9. I think the core of my teaching beliefs lie in high expectations. I feel like you can motivate students to meet their fullest potential by setting them up for success. If you set students up for failure, then they will fail.

I was able to see my philosophy in action when I watched one of my loop special ed students meet my expectations and continue to build on those expectations when they were in second grade. How fulfilling to know you truly made a difference by setting high expectations. I know that we have all had these moments in our teaching career, but I was privileged to watch it happen last year!
